hmmm... so if I am understanding correctly, it's under 5000? I just want to make sure. I was never good at math...![]()
You can’t truly call yourself peaceful unless you are capable of violence. If you’re not capable of violence, you’re not peaceful. You’re harmless.

I think we have a few writers who live for this type of story. I'm looking at G. And especially Vanessa. I'd love to see her face when she reads about this contest.
It should be great fun, as always.![]()

So... if I write my story backward, starting at 5000, would that work?
Don't let my mention of spiders in several places on Lush this morning lead you to believe I have a story idea.

Halloween and Horror Competition
The Celts are thought to have been the founders of what is now known as "Halloween", around 2000 years ago. Their new year started on the 1st of November. The night before they enjoyed a large festival called Samhain which was a celebration of the harvest and the start of winter. It was also thought to be a time when ghosts would come out. The Celts would dress in masks and build big bonfires on the night of Samhain, and also put out food and extravagant offerings for ghosts.

I would like to suggest a live spider for 4th place. I know where several black widows live, and would gladly send one to the place holder. I'll also include the baby western diamondback from my junk room if I can find and catch him.
If a picture is worth a thousand words that's two thousand. Terrifying enough for the win?

The announcement say under 5000, so I am assuming under 5000.

Under 5000, okay so that means 4999 words from me then Rachel.
Though, as it pays to have a plot in mind before committing to write, lets just say I am not yet as enthusiastic as Vanessa.
I see from the announcement that the Celts are thought to have been the founders of what is now known as "Halloween", a large festival called Samhain which was a celebration of the harvest and the start of winter.
End the cultural hegemony of the north I say.
Rise up brothers and sisters of the south, end hemispherism, and lets celebrate the day before the start of winter on the right day, namely April 30th.
Or do I just have to fall into line and think of plot twist for southern ghosts having a preference for spring over autumn.
